Meet Kevin

I’ve always loved real estate but buying my first home here in Sacramento opened my eyes to the difference a good agent can make.

At the time, I hadn't made the switch to real estate yet. That first-time home buying experience gave me a deep-rooted understanding of customer service's role in real estate (more on that experience below). Once I dove into real estate in 2015, I found my decades of working in Customer Service and Sales at national brands like Nordstrom and Trader Joe's quickly paid off. Many years and successful deals later, our clients tell us how much they appreciate our attention to detail and personalized service. They know we care.

Today, I live in Carmichael with my beautiful wife Melissa and our two young daughters.

We love raising our kids here and spend a good amount of time volunteering at our daughters’ local public school.

I appreciate all that our community offers. I'm a forever fan of our beloved Sacramento Kings, River Cats, San Francisco Giants, and the Sac Republic. You can ask me about Carmichael or any other great neighborhoods in Sacramento, including Del Dayo, Shelfield, Wilhaggin, Arden Park, Crocker Ranch, Midtown, East Sac, and New Oak Park.

Six Quick Facts About Me

I think one of the best parts about real estate is...

Getting to meet all kinds of people. This is an awesome business that allows you to meet so many different people from all over the world, not just from Sacramento. The people I’ve met along the way have led to life-long connections and friendships.

We *almost* got steered away from the first home we bought.

My wife and I were not married yet and had been saving for our wedding at the time. We decided to start walking this neighborhood we loved regularly,  hoping to find our dream home. Back then we didn't know anything about the process of purchasing a home.
We reached out to a friend I knew in real estate to help with our search. We quickly realized the agent was pressuring us into choosing a different neighborhood. This didn't feel very encouraging. In the end, we reached out to another agent referred to us by a family member.

The difference was night and day. The new agent treated us with respect and showed us any house we wanted to see at any time. That always stuck with me, so today, I do the same for my clients. I'm very conscious about not pressuring people into a home or neighborhood they don't love.

By the way, we still live in the first home we bought and have loved raising our kids in this neighborhood!

My favorite spot in Sacramento is...

The trail next to the American River where I live in Carmichael. I usually walk early in the mornings with my dog. It's nice to kind of getaway, put on my headphones, go for a run, or throw the ball around with our dog. Down by the river, you can see deer and a lot of different animals that call the river home. I love having that kind of access to nature here in Sacramento.

One more thing I love about Sacramento is being so close to Napa, San Francisco, and Tahoe. These are all fun places to visit that are easily drivable from Sacramento.

I’m not the only one with an entrepreneurial spirit in the family!

For years, my wife and her sister owned a local business salon and boutique here in Carmichael.

Today, she works at a Public Relations and Management firm based in Downtown Sacramento and she continues to use her entrepreneurial skills to support Smith & Burgoon Realty Group.

No matter where our careers have taken us in life, we’ve always loved supporting our community by giving back. If you have a new business or event in the area please let us know, we'd love to hear from you and support in any way possible.

Something I wish every seller knew is...

That everything they see online is not always accurate. Most sellers start the process by checking out the value of their homes on real estate websites like Zillow, Redfin, Realtor.com, and more. Often, a seller will see a number online and use it as the magic number to list their house.

Unfortunately, those websites don't account for the strategy needed to sell your home. We use different approaches based on what else is on the market or what's on your street (your comps). Our clients can trust our knowledge, and access to market data will result in a solid strategy for selling their home that's deeper than what you see on Redfin or Zillow.

The one piece of real estate advice I'd give my kids is...

Find the house that needs the most work in the best neighborhood! In all honesty, you can't move the location of a home, but if you're in a great area and buy a house that needs some work, you're going to be happier in the end. It's much better to find a home in an awesome area that needs a little bit of work because that location will hold its value over the long term.
